A Patriot’s Top Five New Year’s Resolutions
2010 is a make or break year with enormous consequences. The American Patriot determined to make a difference and fight for the preservation of this nation will no doubt be motivated to dig in and prepare for battle. Here are my top five resolutions that all patriots should consider adopting as their own:
1. I will champion a deep sense of gratitude for the nation we’ve inherited: Start by developing the awareness of the price that’s been paid by countless patriots, civilian and military, who have labored and toiled to pass on this great land of liberty. If we don’t fully grasp the “why” (the reasons we should fight and make our own sacrifices for this nation) then we can never expect to have the necessary commitment, zeal and discipline to persevere in this endeavor. For a fantastic primer, read William J. Bennett’s brief “Twelve great reasons to love a great country” as published in his “American Patriot’s Almanac.”
2. I will prepare to wage war with ideas and resources
First, make room in your budget to support conservative, servant leader candidates. One great way to do this is to support the Senate Conservatives Fund led by South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint. The fund seeks out true conservative candidates for the U.S. Senate and supports their campaigns. Give generously to this fund, or simply seek out your own candidates to support.
Second, know the truth and be willing to fight for it. Think critically about the issues; understand both sides of the argument so you can successfully debate in the realm of ideas. To do so, we must read and study with an insatiable appetite for knowledge and truth. Ignorance is our most expensive commodity. Why not set a goal to read one book a month? Turn off the TV and discover your potential in the acquisition of knowledge, wisdom and truth. Once armed with the truth – make a firm stand to promote and defend it.
3. I will support and participate in the Essential Liberty Project
A lofty endeavor led by The Patriot Post, “the Essential Liberty Project is a critical and timely educational initiative to support the restoration of Constitutional integrity and the Rule of Law. The primary tool for instruction is the highly acclaimed Essential Liberty pocket guide. Every American citizen, who values the legacy of liberty bequeathed to them by generations of Patriots, should carry and use this pocket guide to Liberty in your effort to sustain that legacy in our day, and preserve it for our posterity.” To learn more about this inspiring project, visit The Essential Liberty Project.
4. I will engage my civic duties on a higher level: It’s a given that we should participate in all local, state and federal elections by exercising our right to vote. Take it a step further. Enter the phone numbers of your local, state and federal representatives into your cell phone. (Capital Switchboard: 202-224-3121). Secure their email addresses in your address book. Start making regular contact with your representatives on the issues. Speak out and hold them accountable. If not us, then who?
5. I will give up something I enjoy for the sake of our nation’s future
:
We’ve got to make time for the effort required. Whether it’s golfing, your favorite TV show, shopping – we’ve got to sacrifice something to make time for the work that is ahead for us. The importance of this particular resolution cannot be overstated. If we’re not willing to sacrifice something in order to log the hours it’s going to take to pull a U-turn on the road to serfdom, then maybe we deserve what’s coming to us. Each generation of Americans has made sacrifices for the preservation of liberty. What of our generation?
Thoughts? What other resolutions should American patriots be making for 2010?
More importantly, how many of us are wiling to make these kinds of commitments? Can our posterity count on you and me?
