Haste is making waste…of America

The speed at which President Obama and his party are attempting to transform America is alarming. We are being made to think crisis is lurking around every corner and that Uncle Sam must be the one to step in and save the day. But is the chaos authentic or manufactured? It was Obama’s own chief of staff Rahm Emanuel who said “you never want a serious crisis to go to waste” and that “you have an opportunity to do things you couldn’t do before.”

The real question is “why the rush to get so many big government programs through Congress?” The answer is clear: The majority of hard working, freedom loving Americans do not want more government. We want a LOT less government.

Fellow citizens, haste is making waste of America right before our very eyes. Stop and look around at the foundations of this country that are either under attack, or being taken over (unconstitutionally) by the federal government. It is staggering to witness this massive lurch towards Statism…and for those who stand against repeating the deadly failures of this path, it can feel overwhelming to try and do anything about it. And that’s the whole idea: create chaos in order to provide cover to ram through radical transformation before the American people realize what’s happening.

Consider this short list of hasty actions taken by Obama and the Congress in the span of just eight months:

  1. Take over of the banking industry.
  2. Take over of two of “the big three” auto companies (and removal of a CEO)
  3. Take over of private companies and the bullying of employees to return bonuses that were rightfully theirs (AIG).
  4. Attempt to take over our healthcare system (and 1/6 of the nation’s economy).
  5. Attempt to take over the energy sector (Cap and Trade).
  6. Take over of the student loan industry (just passed the House without much notice).
  7. The proposed government subsidizing (take over) of the print media.
  8. The tripling of the national debt – 17.1 TRILLION by 2019 per the CBO.

And what is being accomplished with these measures? Consider these sobering statistics measured from election day to present day:

  • A 51% rise in the unemployment rate – a 26 yr. high. (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
  • GDP down .25% (Bureau of Economic Analysis)
  • Housing starts down 11.1% (U.S. Dept. of Commerce)
  • Food Stamps up 10.6% (which equals 34.4 million people dependent on the
government for food – the greatest number in U.S. history) (Reuters)
  • Disposable personal income down .41% (Bureau of Economic Analysis)
  • Home Mortgages under water up 50.6% (Moody’s economy, zillow.com)

And no, these are not all inherited problems by any stretch, though President Bush did initiate the first (misguided) bailout package. As Rush Limbaugh recently wrote,  “Every U.S. President ‘inherits’ ipso facto, the greatest economy in the history of the world – produced by free people, whose own inheritance is liberty.” Case in point: Reagan inherited a worse recession from Carter in 1980, and he rightly set the American people free from oppressive taxes and over-regulation. The result? The greatest expansion and growth of prosperity in the history of our country over the next three decades.

History is clear about what needs to happen and we must compel our leaders to do the following:

  1. Stop and greatly reduce spending
  2. Cut taxes
  3. Deregulate and empower the private sector
  4. Expand free trade
  5. Get the government out of the way!

Be vigilant. We can do something about it. Continue contacting members of Congress and remember the inspiring example set by the recent 9/12 March on D.C. The American people have awoken and it’s time to take back our country.

The Power of Self Reliance

I’m amazed and inspired by the bold and courageous initiative of two young people concerned about their country and the level of corruption threatening its future. James O’Keefe, 25, and Hannah Giles, 20, have stepped out on the edge to expose the massive corruption and immorality of the increasingly notorious conglomerate ACORN – a huge multi-million dollar international network that is devoted to undermining democracy and the capitalist system. ACORN has received at least $53 million of our federal tax dollars since 1994 and has been charged with numerous cases of voter registration fraud in several states. (As an ACORN benefactor, trainer and organizer, President Obama maintains close ties with the organization as evidenced by the $8.4 billion alloted to it through his stimulus package.)

Offended by the corruption and the lack of investigative reporting being done by the mainstream media, O’Keefe and Giles took the initiative to do what should have been done a long time ago. Without waiting for anyone to tell them what or how, the duo conducted a Hollywood style sting operation that is blowing the tops off of traditional media hacks and mainstream networks. Spending only $1,300, the innovative duo has now busted four different ACORN offices in Maryland, New York, Washington D.C., and Calif. To view their videos and read more on this mushrooming story, click here.

The irony here is that the power of self reliance has exposed and is bringing accountability to an organization perceived by many of its high rolling supporters (like Roseanne Barr) to be one that teaches self-reliance. In his recent Townhall magazine article  “Stealing Democracy”, Matthew Vadum exposes the disturbing reality that ACORN was founded rather to encourage people to get on welfare. “Their strategy aims to overload the system in order to bring about radical change in America,” writes Vadum.

This incredible story should remind us that if something is wrong, “We the people” have the power to do something about it. We are not helpless in the face of massive corruption and falsehood. What the mainstream media had refused to do, this young duo did with a simple plan and some basic video equipment. It is exciting and empowering to see such a scenario unfold especially in light of their outlook on the operation. On her blog Giles shared that, “We expected to be successful…we were confident in our mission.”

There is real hope when two young people, bolstered by self reliance and a passion for justice, take on such a powerful conglomerate like ACORN.

Let us always remember then, as O’Keefe and Giles do, that democracy is NOT a spectator sport…

How should we recognize September 11, 2001?

After only eight years, Leftist groups are attempting to hijack the horrific acts of war committed against the U.S. on September 11, 2001 for political aims. And it started back in April when the President signed into law a measure that would make 9/11, already declared “Patriot Day”,  a national day of service.

For background, please read this article.

In short, a coalition of around 60 far-left, environmentalist, labor, and corporate shakedown groups have joined forces to remake 9/11 into a launching pad for their “Greening of America.” Last week, the now resigned Green Jobs Czar Van Jones, a self proclaimed communist, said this about the National Day of Service: [It will be a great opportunity] “for people to connect, to find other people in your peer group who are also passionate about re-powering America, but also greening up America and cleaning up America.” Obama’s own campaign organization, Organizing for America, is going so far as to use 9/11 for a health care organizing event, to call U.S. Senators, and an opportunity to, as their website stated, “fight back against our own Right-Wing Domestic Terrorists who are subverting the American Democratic process…”

The Left is attempting to rewrite history while politicizing it for their own radical agenda. But the majority of Americans will not support this appalling and twisted attempt to remake 9/11. So what should be done with the anniversary of 9/11?

First and foremost, we must honor the nearly 3,000 people who were murdered that awful day. We do this by sacred ceremony and deep reverence. And whatever ceremony and ritual we observe, it must be done with complete respect and dignity for the families of those who lost loves ones that day. Project 2,996 is just one of many ways that people are doing this.

Secondly, we remember that the brave patriots of Flight 93 fought back and won. We honor their courage and sacrifice by carrying on their spirit of self-reliance and boldness to fight back. It is critical that we remember that it wasn’t the government who won the first battle in this war with Islamic extremists. It was a cross section of ordinary citizens who fought back and ultimately saved the lives of thousands more in the heart of our capital city.

And lastly, we must honor the events of that day by never forgetting what actually took place. As we do this, we must  remember accurately what those acts of war taught us: 1). Evil is real and cannot be ignored or appeased. 2) War has been declared against us by Islamic extremists who will stop at nothing to kill us and destroy our nation. 3) To never forget that “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.” As difficult as it may be, we must venture back to relive the shock, the horror, the despair, the anger and the sheer devastation we all felt. If not, how can we expect to pass on to posterity the severity and seriousness of those heinous acts against us? How else can we teach future generations the fragility of freedom and the price that’s been paid by so many? If we water down and rationalize away the worst attack on American soil before even a decade has past by, one has to wonder how long it will take before we allow history to repeat itself.

In honor and memory of all the loved ones who perished on September 11, 2001. We will never forget. We will stand firm and we will fight on to preserve this sacred land of liberty and freedom.

Common Sense Healthcare Reform

Americans have shown their overwhelming opposition to HR3200, the health care bill brought forth by Congress this summer. A clear majority oppose the bill, but more importantly they oppose the entire premise of government run healthcare.

Most agree that reform is needed, but we must correctly identify the core problem before we can solve it. The problem is not quality of care, nor is it the level of technology at our disposal. And it’s certainly not the level of expertise of our doctors. When you boil it all down, it’s the high cost of healthcare (and the cost of insurance) that is the central issue. So the focus of reform should be on lowering costs, and there are a number of common sense ways to do that. Here are just a few of them in no particular order:

(Please note: This is just a brief listing, not an exhaustive list, nor is it meant to fully explain or hammer out each reform.)

Tort Reform – According to the American Medical Association, liability pressure raises health system costs by $84-$151 billion per year. When doctors are focused on preventing financial loss, instead of fixing you, we’ve got serious problems. According to the Coalition to Protect Patient’s Rights, “The current system encourages defensive medicine with the ordering of additional expensive tests. This could be avoided with a change in the current system crammed with junk-lawsuits filed without merit because of contingency fees and visions of lottery-like jackpots.” Unfortunately, Congress doesn’t want to fight this battle according to Howard Dean’s comment at a recent town hall meeting: “This is the answer from a doctor and a politician. Here’s why tort reform is not in the bill. When you go to pass a really enormous bill like that, the more stuff you put in it, the more enemies you make, right? And the reason that tort reform is not in the bill is because the people who wrote it did not want to take on the trial lawyers in addition to everyone else they were taking on. And that is the plain and simple truth.”

Allow purchasing of insurance across state lines – Right now, we can’t shop across state lines to find the best health insurance for our families. Laws that prohibit this should be rescinded immediately to increase competition, which in turn will increase our options and lower costs.

Move away from all-encompassing ‘cadilac’ plans and towards catastrophic coverage plans – We need to focus on creating more low premium/high deductible insurance plans that cover the catastrophic events we all worry about, while allowing the smaller stuff to be paid for out of pocket (or with HSAs). It’s not the regular check ups or even the occasional illness that hurt us. It’s the severe illness or heart attack that we all fear when it comes to sky high medical bills.

Tax Equity
– According to Nina Owcharenko of the Heritage Foundation, Congress must provide for universal tax credits for everyone who purchases health insurance, regardless of their employment situation. Right now, it is an unequal playing field – those with employer based health insurance get tax breaks, while those who are self employed do not.

Separate employment from health insurance - A different perspective offered by Freedom Works involves reform that seeks individual mobile insurance for those who want it, rather than tying employees into keeping a job that they do not enjoy just because it provides them with health benefits that they need. This makes sense because as the Coalition to Protect Patient’s Rights states, “Personal ownership of health insurance policies will make each patient a better, more informed advocate for their care and make insurance companies more competitive [lowering costs] and offer more services.”

The Church and Faith based organizations – For those who fall through the cracks and can’t afford health insurance, or get into trouble with suffocating medical bills, the church and faith based organizations and clinics should be stepping in and filling the gaps. Tax breaks and other incentives ought to promote and greatly expand this side of it.

Focus on developing a consumer choice centered system – This would promote private competition centered on price, quality, and value. Increased competition among insurance companies would create more and better health care plans which help determine premiums and price. This creates market incentives to control costs and improve services.

Focus on improving the relationship between patient and doctor
– In an op-ed piece written by Tenn. Senator Bob Corker, the Senator proposed standardizing insurance claim forms to allow providers to spend more time treating patients and less time doing paperwork. He also proposed requiring providers to publish transparent pricing and quality outcomes which would empower consumers to make more informed decisions about their health.
